Last night, I was excited to try out a new bourbon. Our local liquor store had this bourbon from New Holland. I've had a couple of their beers: Dragon's Milk is my favorite of theirs, a kick in the head, 11% stout aged in a bourbon barrel. I've also tried their Poet, an oatmeal stout that was very good. After the good beer tastings, I thought I would give their spirit game a try! I started with a small glass of the Beer Barrel Bourbon (BBB), an 80 proof bourbon, neat. I was surprised to find that the beer flavor caught me on the front end. It added a nice bit of smoothness before the classic bite of the bourbon arrived. I enjoyed the light smokey flavor and the light body. The second glass was on ice, and this really added to the flavor profile. The smoothness from the beer barrel was brought to life with the chill of the ice and a little bit of the melt.
Add New Holland's Beer Barrel Bourbon to the list of nightly drinkers. The 80 proof and smoothness from the beer barrel makes this a great bourbon, one I'm happy to have on the shelf as an option for visiting friends! Comments are closed.
