The NBA and why you should be watching

7/2/2017

NBA Draft

The time to start watching the NBA is NOW!  The NBA draft just concluded, with Markelle Fultz going to the Philadelphia 76ers with the first pick.  The 76ers traded this pick with the Boston Celtics.  Next up, the Los Angeles Lakers grabbed the media's darling, Lonzo Ball.  Third up, the Celtics grabbed Jayson Tatum.  This year's draft stock was pretty high, with a lot of potential.  This year also is starting to usher in a return of some traditional powerhouse teams.  The Celtics and Lakers are on their way up, and fans of either should be very excited!

NBA Finals

The NBA postseason was a great one.  We got to see the rubber match between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors.  This was their third meeting with the Warriors taking the first seriers, the Cavs taking the second series, and finally, Golden State proving they were one of the best teams in NBA history by taking this years Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy back to Oakland with them.  The level of competition was amazing, and the games were really exciting to watch.  Either team was capable of going on a 20-0 run and changing the game/series at any time.  We were able to watch three players, Lebron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant who will go down as three of the top 20 players of all time.  We are in a special talent spike in the NBA and it's amazing to see!

NBA Trades and Free Agency

Following the finals, it didn't take long for the trade and free agency season to become tumultuous.  The season kicked off with long time Chicago Bull Jimmy Butler being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He will join Carl Anthony Towns, and some others, to make an exciting young team!

Next up was a big move, having Los Angeles Clipper Chris Paul being traded to the Houston Rockets, joining MVP runner up James Harden.  Paul was a long time Clipper, making his move a surprising one.

The Indiana Pacer's star, Paul George, made it known he wasn't too happy in Indiana, and wanted to end up somewhere else at the end of next season.  This was enough to get him traded, this year, moving him to the Oklahoma City Thunder, joining MVP Russel Westbrook.  This team will be an amazing team to watch, high energy, explosive, I can't wait!

As the President of Basketball Operations for the New York Knicks, long time Bulls and Lakers coach, Phil Jackson, just got fired from his job in New York.  This is after many years of poor play, bad decisions and nothing promising on the horizon.  Well, I take that back, two years ago they drafted a Latvian player named Kristaps Porzingis, nicknamed the Unicorn, because he is that special!

There are a lot of amazing things happening in the NBA.  Now is the time to start watching.  Now is the time to grab a team and start cheering for them.  Now is the time to learn about a couple exciting players and follow them throughout the Summer.  Now is the time to buy in the NBA!
